Chapter 113 Breakfast
Chapter 113 Breakfast
Regarding how to resolve this "dispute," Li Wei chose the simplest, most direct, and also the most brutal method.
He put away his gun, grabbed one of Cruz's remaining corpses by the leg, and dragged him directly out the door.
"Your boss is here. Take him back."
Li Wei shouted, then abandoned the Cruz and walked back without looking back.
Seeing this, Esther subconsciously stopped shooting and looked at Levi, as if asking whether to continue firing.
However, Li Wei ignored him and went straight up to the second floor.
Esther couldn't hold back any longer.
"Boss, where are you going?"
"sleep."
Li Wei's answer was concise and to the point. He then went to the office area on the second floor, found a fairly comfortable sofa, and lay down.
He covered himself with the black trench coat as a blanket, and then closed his eyes.
Soon, Esther rushed in.
"Boss, they ran away, but they didn't take... um... Cruz?"
Since Cruz was headless, Esther was a little unsure.
Li Wei, who had already closed his eyes, simply turned over, seemingly not wanting to be disturbed.
After thinking for a moment, Esther finally voiced her question.
"Boss, what...what do we do next?"
His previous betrayal was just a momentary impulse, and although the outcome proved his choice to be wise, now that he has calmed down, Esther can't help but consider a question—what to do next.
But he was never a smart man, so he subconsciously chose to rely on his "boss" to make decisions, following his usual habits.
"sleep."
Li Wei answered, but his answer seemed meaningless.
But that was enough for Esther.
If there is a command, execute it.
For him, who was used to "following orders," this was the answer Esther wanted most.
Even if it sounds unreliable.
At least it was clear enough that Tonster knew what he was supposed to do.
So he picked up the general-purpose machine gun and quietly retreated.
Worried about disturbing Li Wei's message, he went back downstairs, moved a few ammunition boxes together to make a bed, and lay down on it.
Although it wasn't very comfortable, it felt very reassuring.
Tonight, he's beating up scum like himself, not some single mother who, out of despair, turned to "flour" and ended up with a mountain of debt.
For the first time since entering the industry, Esther slept soundly until dawn.
I wasn't woken up by nightmares, nor was I disturbed by "work"; I simply had a good night's sleep.
It's a rare treat.
Until the morning sun shone through the glass and fell on his face.
The gentle warmth made him slowly open his eyes.
He glanced up at the office area on the second floor and, seeing that the doors were still closed, decided not to disturb them.
He thought about what he could do now.
During this process, his stomach started to protest.
"Gurgle..."
However, he also realized what he was capable of doing—making breakfast.
The ingredients are here, and they were just delivered yesterday, so they're quite fresh.
So Esther went straight to the warehouse at the back.
Opening the warehouse door reveals a clear division between different areas.
On the left are various "industrial materials", and on the right are food ingredients.
To avoid contaminating "industrial materials", the food is packaged in bags or wrapped in cling film.
Esther went inside and grabbed a bag of toast and a few eggs, then took some bacon from the refrigerator where ingredients were stored.
After thinking it over for a moment, he took a few more vegetables and prepared to make a vegetable salad.
After he went into the kitchen, he spent about half an hour preparing two breakfasts.
Toasted bread, fried eggs and bacon, and a big bowl of vegetable salad.
Although the control panel was a "dining table" of just the right height, Esther still tidied up the ammunition boxes where he slept.
Stack two together to make a dining table, and place two on either side to make chairs.
After finishing all that, Esther suddenly froze.
He...it seems like he hasn't done anything so ordinary, or rather, "normal," in a long time.
So long ago that he couldn't remember the exact time, only vaguely recalling that his wife and children were still alive at that time, while he was running a small restaurant.
They lived a "normal" life that was neither poor nor rich.
Even after his son was diagnosed with leukemia and the family had spent all their money and incurred a debt of $50,000, they still couldn't save him. His wife, unable to bear the blow, committed suicide by shooting herself.
To survive, he put down the spatula, picked up a pistol, and joined a gang.
His transition from chef to scum may not have been smooth, but he survived.
But all they managed was survive.
Since joining the gang, he has been woken up by nightmares every day, and then lies in bed with his eyes open, waiting for dawn.
Then, amidst the annoying ringing of cell phones, they go to "collect debts" or "deliver goods."
On the way, I randomly find a "drive-thru" or similar place, stop the car for a few minutes, buy a fast food meal to tide me over, and start each terrible day.
"It smells delicious. Opening a restaurant might be a more suitable career for you."
Levi's voice suddenly reached Esther's ears. He subconsciously looked up and saw Levi carrying a black trench coat on his back with one hand, yawning as he walked down from the second floor.
Esther stood up instinctively.
"Boss! I've made your portion!"
Li Wei nodded, indicating that he had seen it.
He then walked straight to the "dining table" made of stacked ammunition boxes, used his trench coat as a cushion, and sat down.
I picked up a piece of toast and took a bite. The crispy texture and wheat flavor quickly filled my mouth.
"The food tastes pretty good too. Seriously, why not consider opening a restaurant?"
Esther's gaze dimmed for a moment.
"It used to be open, but it went bankrupt."
"What a pity."
Li Wei casually remarked and quickly finished his portion.
Then, he licked his fingers.
"By the way, hurry up and eat. After you're done, come with me to count our spoils."
Esther paused for a moment before she could even put the bacon and fried egg together after sitting down and rolling them up in her mouth.
"Spoils of war? What spoils of war?"
Esther was clearly not keeping up with Levi's train of thought.
But Li Wei neither disliked nor minded it.
Because this is the norm for him.
"The guy who came looking for trouble is dead, so his things should naturally be handed over to me."
Esther took a moment to process what Levi was talking about when he realized that Levi was referring to Cruz.
"But... Boss, while you did kill Cruz, you're not the only one interested in his 'legacy'... uh..."
Esther considered it for a moment and then changed her wording.
"It's not just us; others are also eyeing this piece of meat."
Li Wei seemed quite pleased after hearing this.
"That's great, it means there will be the most loot."
Esther moved her lips, but said nothing, and simply stuffed the fried egg and bacon into her mouth.
And silently added a sentence in his mind.
More trouble will come...
