Chapter 54 The Fall of the Angel
Chapter 54 The Fall of the Angel
Two-thirds of its body vanished instantly, and the Hungry Angel's heavy upper body plummeted into a semi-circular crater with a deafening roar.
The piercing scream was mixed with pain and utter fear. The monster, which possessed immense vitality, had never expected to face such a tragic situation. Its remaining arms flailing about, trying to stop the entrails and organs flowing out from the smooth cross-section of its abdomen.
The stench was comparable to the accumulated stench of a whole slaughterhouse's wastewater. The remains of hunted beasts and humans, along with the viscous blood of the hungry angels, filled the entire pit.
But even so, it is not dead yet...
Its spine is regenerating at a speed visible to the naked eye! In just a few more minutes, it will regenerate all its ribs, followed by the formation of nerves and blood vessels.
We must take it down immediately!
"Father Andrei, could you lend me your weapon?" Simon gasped, reaching out his hand to Andrei.
A few minutes ago, he threw out the harpoon in order to make the Hungry Angel flap its six wings to dispel the steam, and now the harpoon has been annihilated along with the Hungry Angel's body.
Andrei casually pulled out the pistol from his left hip and handed it to him.
"I modified this gun; it has a lot of recoil, but you should be able to handle it if you're the user."
This is a dark gray, large-caliber "Iron Fist" heavy revolver.
The gun designer used extreme violence as its design concept. The gun is very heavy and requires two hands to hold. The magazine holds six large-caliber bullets, and a lead-bore smoothbore barrel is mounted on the central axis of the cylinder, which means that this pistol can also fire a shotgun shell.
"Thank you, Father," Simon said, taking the weapon.
This weapon also has a special function: it will help him complete the tasks entrusted to him by the Mother of Abundance.
But now is not the time to think about that. Killing the Hungry Angel and seizing the flesh of the evidence of sin is the most important task.
The situation on the field is changing rapidly, and he must make a choice...
He turned his head and saw that the Holy Hammer Sisters were on their way to provide support, while the Impure World Healers were even more proactive.
The tomb raiders—Franny and Elphis—were quietly leaving the battlefield. Before departing, he gave a meaningful look in the direction of Simon.
Without a moment to think, Simon and Anderson had already arrived at the large pit.
The hungry angel was still struggling. It couldn't free its hands to deal with the intruder that was so close at hand. Its arms held the spilled organs and desperately tried to keep them inside its body. This actually worked. New tissue wrapped around the damaged organs and viscera, keeping them inside its body.
But they couldn't stop the monster from regenerating. The pit was full of blood and severed limbs. Did they have to swim across the waist-deep pool of blood?
"Damn it!" Andrei frowned, but emptying one of the monster's magazines was to no avail.
"Give it a few more minutes and it'll pick itself up..." Simon volunteered. "Father Andrei, throw me over there!"
"Throw it over?"
Andrei instantly understood what he meant; with his enhanced arm strength, he could easily throw Simon over.
"Alright, let's do it!"
He raised his metal right arm, palm open.
Simon holstered the heavy revolver in his waist holster, bent his knees, and placed his feet on Andrei's metal hands.
The hydraulic system released the stored power in an instant, and Simon's body flew upward like a cannonball!
The wind whistled past his ears, and he forced himself to open his eyes to check where he was landing.
Its body flew over the edge of the crater, over the still surging pools of blood and broken bones, and its feet landed on the chest of the hungry angel.
The spot where I landed was the newly grown skin, soft like stepping in a swamp.
That's disgusting...
He drew his dagger, used it as a climbing axe, and slowly began to climb.
The Hungry Angel's body was convulsing, which was undoubtedly dangerous for him. Every tremor of its massive body could cause him to slip off the monster. Simon climbed very carefully with each step, knowing that he would fall if he was not careful.
Finally, he climbed up to the back of the monster's neck.
The human-shaped head drooped limply, its blue eyes devoid of any spirit. Simon went around to its back.
He pulled out the large-caliber revolver that Anderson had lent him and fired four shots at the skin on the back of his neck.
After the gunshot, thick blood oozed from the four bullet holes.
Don't rush, don't rush...
Simon gripped the dagger and carried out his work methodically, unaffected by the monster's trembling body, the cacophony of noises, or the foul stench.
With great difficulty, he peeled back the skin, and the flesh, evidence of the sins of the hungry angel, appeared before his eyes.
The piece of flesh, which had turned almost black from red, was throbbing, again and again, like the heartbeat of a monster.
The grayish-white mycelium was growing wildly, trying to protect the monster's most vital parts, but Simon wouldn't give it a chance. The dagger fell heavily, the blade severing the mycelium. He continued cutting with all his might, clearing away the mycelium, and then he sliced off the side of the piece of flesh that was evidence of the crime.
Dark red blood gushed from the wound at the base, and a terrified shriek escaped the monster's throat as it made a final struggle, wildly flailing its arms to try and throw Simon off.
At this critical moment, Simon simply threw down the dagger, grabbed the chunk of meat with both hands, and yanked it outwards!

With the breaking of the last mycelium, the monster let out a final wail from its throat, then lay still like a statue.
In the final moments of life, the head belonging to a member of the angelic order quietly turned...
The soul manipulated by the abyss has finally found peace.
Simon held the precious piece of flesh, the evidence of guilt, in his hands, which were covered in sticky blood.
The hungry angel who soared from the depths of the abyss ultimately died at his hands.
An angel has fallen.
But Simon still had work to do...
Without taking a break, he took out an explosive crossbow bolt from the quiver containing the bolts.
He inserted all the explosive bolts into the back of the monster's neck, the part from which the flesh of guilt was extracted.
"What you're doing is dangerous."
A soft, sweet voice suddenly rang out.
"You're awake?" Simon greeted the birdcage behind his backpack.
"It was just a short nap." Brene yawned as she woke up. "You're quite clever. You even knew how to destroy evidence, making the Empire think you didn't get the incriminating flesh."
Simon planted the explosive bolts there for one purpose only, just as Breanne said, to destroy the evidence.
She saw through his thoughts at a glance as soon as she woke up.
"The flesh of the Hungry Angel, the evidence of its sins, was destroyed in the explosion. You want to use this excuse to deceive the Empire and then secretly trade that piece of flesh with the Cave Raiders? Am I right?"
"That's right," Simon replied.
"Then you'd better be prepared. Edo Tensei doctors aren't easy to fool. If you get caught, you're in big trouble..."
"Run, little mouse, run! This time your opponent is a terrifying empire!"
