Chapter 130 The Golden City and the Temple of the Sun!
Chapter 130 The Golden City and the Temple of the Sun!
The gates of the city of El Dorado were tightly shut, and green vines climbed the walls. Ancient Inca script was inscribed on the gates, along with a huge sun totem.
"Is this the Golden City? It's magnificent!" Elder Mingyue exclaimed in amazement. "I never imagined the legendary Golden City actually existed!"
Lu Jingchen walked to the city gate and carefully observed the sun totem on it. He noticed that the totem's eyes were made of two red gemstones, faintly emitting a light.
"This is the entrance to the Temple of the Sun," Lu Jingchen said. "The dragon's lair should be located beneath the Temple of the Sun."
He reached out and infused the power of the true dragon into the eyes of the sun totem.
"Snap—!"
With a soft sound, the city gate slowly opened.
A strong smell of blood and evil wafted out from inside the city gate.
The four entered the Golden City, and the sight before them astonished them.
The buildings lining the streets were once constructed of gold, and the ground was paved with white marble slabs. But now, the entire city was in ruins, littered with corpses. These corpses, dressed in Inca clothing, were clearly the guardians of the golden city. Their deaths were extremely gruesome; their bodies had been drained of blood, leaving them as mummies.
"It was the Dark Pavilion who did it," Elder Qingfeng said through gritted teeth. "They actually slaughtered all the guardians of Golden City; they're utterly depraved!"
Lu Jingchen's eyes were so cold they could freeze a person to death. He clenched his fists and walked step by step toward the Temple of the Sun in the center of the city.
The Temple of the Sun was the tallest building in the entire Golden City, entirely constructed of gold. The temple's steps were covered in blood and corpses.
The four of them walked up the steps, and just as they reached the entrance of the temple, they heard a strange chanting sound.
In the center of the temple stood dozens of black-clad assassins. They surrounded a massive crimson array, chanting incantations. In the center of the array lay an old man in a golden robe, a dagger embedded in his chest, blood flowing down the dagger into the array.
Standing beside the formation was Shadow One, the leader of the Twelve Shadow Masters of the Dark Pavilion.
"Lu Jingchen, you've finally arrived." Ying Yi turned around, wearing a black mask, her voice hoarse. "I thought you'd be a few days later."
"Where is the Dark Pavilion Master?" Lu Jingchen asked coldly.
"Our lord has already entered the dragon's lair." Shadow smiled. "He told me to wait for you here and prepare a great gift for you."
He suddenly waved his hand, and the temple doors slammed shut.
The entire temple shook violently. Cracks appeared in the ground, and four enormous golden warriors crawled out from underground. They were ten meters tall, holding golden spears, their eyes flashing red, and their bodies emanating a dense aura of death.
"These are the guardian warriors of the Inca Empire, originally meant to protect the dragon's lair. It's a pity they've been corrupted by Lord Chi You's power, turned into puppets who only know how to kill," Shadow One said smugly. "Lu Jingchen, today these four golden warriors will send you on your way!"
The four golden warriors roared simultaneously, raising their golden spears and thrusting them towards Lu Jingchen. The spears whistled through the air, tearing apart wherever they passed.
"You all step back, I'll deal with them!" Lu Jingchen shouted, taking the initiative to meet them.
He moved with lightning speed, weaving between the four golden warriors. The golden spears repeatedly pierced the ground, creating large craters, but they couldn't even touch the hem of Lu Jingchen's clothes.
"Bang!"
Lu Jingchen punched a golden warrior in the chest. The golden warrior's chest caved in instantly, and he fell backward, crashing into a pillar.
But it quickly got back up, and the dents on its body returned to normal at a speed visible to the naked eye.
"It's no use! The Golden Warriors are immortal!" Shadow laughed. "Their bodies are made of gold and sunstone. As long as the Temple of the Sun stands, they will never be killed!"
Lu Jingchen frowned. Sure enough, the other three golden warriors had also been knocked down by him several times, but each time they were able to get back up.
"This can't go on, we have to find their core!" Su Muyue shouted.
Lu Jingchen looked up at the sun god statue at the top of the temple. He realized that the power of the four golden warriors all came from the sun god statue.
"I understand!" Lu Jingchen's eyes lit up, and he leaped onto the shoulder of the sun god statue.
He formed a hand seal and poured the power of the true dragon into the sun god statue.
"The power of the sun, purify evil spirits!"
Suddenly, the statue of the sun god emitted a dazzling golden light. Countless golden rays shot out from the statue, heading towards the four golden warriors.
"ah--!"
The golden warriors let out a piercing scream, and the black evil aura around them instantly dissipated. The red light in their eyes also disappeared, and their eyes regained their clarity.
"Thank you for waking us up, sir!"
The four golden warriors knelt on one knee at the same time and respectfully addressed Lu Jingchen.
Yingyi's smile froze instantly, and he shouted in disbelief, "Impossible! This is absolutely impossible! How could you possibly awaken them?!"
"Because you are using evil power, while the Temple of the Sun is a symbol of justice." Lu Jingchen jumped down from the statue and looked coldly at Ying Yi. "Now, it's your turn."
The four golden warriors stood up at the same time, raised their golden spears, and thrust them at Shadow One.
Shadow was so frightened that he turned and ran, but he had only taken two steps when a golden warrior's spear pierced his shoulder.
"ah--!"
Shadow let out a scream and collapsed to the ground.
Lu Jingchen walked up to him and stepped on his chest: "Speak! What is the Dark Pavilion Master doing in the Dragon's Lair? Where is my master?"
"My lord... My lord is absorbing the power of Chi You from the dragon's lair..." Ying Yi said breathlessly, "Your master... Your master is indeed in the Vatican... My lord has already laid a trap there... just waiting for you to walk right into it..."
"Anything else?" Lu Jingchen continued to ask.
"And...and..." Shadow One's eyes suddenly turned ferocious, "And...Lord Chi You will soon be resurrected...At that time...the whole world will become his possession...You will all die..."
After saying that, he suddenly bit down on the poison in his mouth, and died bleeding from all seven orifices.
Lu Jingchen loosened his grip and said to the four golden warriors, "Where is the dragon's lair? Take us there."
"Yes, sir."
Four golden warriors led the four people into a secret passage behind the temple.
At the end of the secret passage lies a huge underground cave. In the center of the cave is a black pool of water—this is the fifth dragon's lair.
Beside the pool, there was a fragment of a jade pendant and a sheepskin map.
Lu Jingchen picked up the jade pendant fragment and pieced it together with the jade pendant in his hand, making it a complete half.
Then he picked up the parchment map and discovered it was a map of the Vatican's crypt. A location was marked on the map in red ink—the catacombs of St. Peter's Basilica.
On the back of the map, written in the master's handwriting, was a line that read: "Jingchen, do not trust anyone. Chiyou has possessed Xuanqing's body, and the Vatican has three of the Eight Jades."
Lu Jingchen gripped the map tightly, his eyes becoming incredibly determined.
"Let's go. Next stop, Vatican City."
The four turned and left the dragon's lair.
As they walked out of the Temple of the Sun, the sky suddenly darkened.
A black beam of light shot into the sky from the direction of the Vatican, illuminating the entire sky.
A suffocating aura of evil swept across the globe.
Lu Jingchen looked up towards Europe, his eyes cold.
Lu Xuanqing, Chi You.
I am coming.
It's time to put an end to this five-thousand-year-old feud.
