Chapter 51 Important Clues
Chapter 51 Important Clues
"Boss, where's a public phone around here?" Cao Dahua shouted.
"Go out the door and walk 50 meters to the left, there's a small shop there, and they have a phone."
"Don't clear the food yet, we might need to eat it later."
The two had already paid, so they greeted each other, got up immediately, jogged out of the restaurant, and went to the convenience store the owner had mentioned. They then dialed the number on the pager.
"Hello, this is Cao Dahua!"
"Officer Cao, do you remember me?"
"Hou Er?" Cao Dahua frowned. "You've heard of that thing?"
"I've heard about it. Let's meet and talk, otherwise things won't be clear."
"Okay, tell me a place."
"There's a public phone right here at the intersection of Hongxing Road and Jianshe Road. I'll wait for you there."
"Just wait!"
After hanging up the phone, Cao Dahua explained, "Hou Er, there's an old thief we've met before. He's been in and out of jail twice. I was the one who arrested him the first time. This guy isn't honest. He didn't say anything before, but he's only bringing it up now."
"Let's go to Hongxing Road! We'll skip dinner for now."
"Hmm." As he walked towards the motorcycle, Wu Song couldn't help but sigh, thinking about how they had to find a public phone to make a call earlier. "It feels like having a cell phone is so much more convenient!"
"What's wrong? Thinking about buying a phone? I think you shouldn't rush it," Cao Dahua said. "Which phone on the market these days costs less than four or five thousand? The network access fee is another thousand, the monthly fee is fifty, and it's four cents a minute for two-way charging."
Many people who own cell phones still carry pagers. Why? Because they can use public phones if needed, and they can't afford to use their cell phones.
We only earn a few hundred yuan a month, and we're not even guaranteed to receive it on time. Buying a cell phone would take a year of not eating or drinking. What's the point of buying that thing?
"Let's wait two years. I think this thing, like the old mobile phones, will eventually come down in price. Ten years ago, an old mobile phone cost over 20,000 yuan, but now? No rush!"
"Too."
There were public telephones everywhere, and walkie-talkies in the city, so there was no real need to buy one, and Wu Song gave up on the idea.
……
After riding the sidecar for more than 20 minutes, the two arrived at the public phone booth that Hou Er had mentioned.
Standing next to him was a slender man who was about 1.65 meters tall.
As darkness fell, only one figure could be seen.
Only after parking the motorcycle in front of the figure could one recognize that this person was Hou Er, whom they had met a few days ago.
Wu Song also had some impression of him.
For no other reason than that he had a black mole next to his nose on his face.
"Hehehe, Captain Cao! Brother Wu." Hou Er nodded to the master and apprentice.
"You know me?" Wu Song was somewhat surprised. It wasn't surprising that he knew Cao Dahua, after all, he was the one who had personally arrested him. But how could he know him? When he asked those people with prior theft convictions a few days ago, he hadn't mentioned their names.
"Of course I know him!" Hou Er said with a hint of flattery. "About half a year ago, Boss Wang and his gang robbed a bus. They managed to rob a young policeman, who was armed with knives and guns, but he beat four of them to death with his bare hands. It was all over the underworld recently. People were saying he was practically a reincarnation of Wu Song."
I saw you a few days ago, and judging by your figure, I knew it was you.
"Hehe!" Wu Song chuckled. "Tell me, have you heard about that gun?"
"yes!"
"Why didn't you say so before?"
"Officer Cao, I don't want to have any dealings with you unless it's necessary. At the time, I didn't think it was a big deal either, just a gun." Hou Er said, "Go take a walk around the surrounding villages, just those villages in the suburbs of Gotham, you can collect at least a hundred guns."
If I tell you the clues, wouldn't I be offending people for no reason?
I heard about the recent shooting, and it seems to be the same gun you were investigating before, which is why I thought I'd tell you about it.
"Who has it?"
"Will there be a reward for this lead?" Hou Er rubbed his hands together with a smile. "I'm almost at my wit's end lately."
"Wait!" Cao Dahua pulled out a handful of change from his pocket, about fifty yuan, and stuffed it into his hand. "Take this and eat first! If the clues you provided are useful, I'll apply for a reward for you."
"Oh dear, how could I possibly accept your money!" Hou Er said politely, but after pausing for two seconds, he still took the money. "It's like this, about half a month ago, a former cellmate of mine named Xiaomi asked me if I wanted to buy a gun and even asked me to introduce him to clients. I knew that getting involved in this kind of thing would cause trouble, and besides, how much could a gun be worth? So I ignored him."
"Your name?" Wu Song asked.
"Wang Aimi was born in the Year of the Rat, so his father named him that. It just so happens that his mother's surname is also Mi."
"Have you seen his gun?"
"Of course I've seen it." Hou Er nodded. "It's similar to your Black Star, but that gun probably isn't police-issued. It even has rough edges on the casing, like a black gun."
"Do you think he's the one who killed him?" Cao Dahua asked casually, handing him a cigarette.
"How could I dare to make such a fuss? It's such a big deal." Hou Er smiled. "But based on my understanding of him, he doesn't seem like the kind of person who would dare to do that. If you say he stole from someone's house, I'll believe you. But if you say he committed murder, with his cowardly appearance, it's unlikely."
Where does he live?
"It's in one of the nearby villages. Shall I take you there?"
"Get in, I'll give you directions." Cao Dahua nodded his head into the truck bed.
"Why."
After turning into a nearby urban village and making several turns, the three of them arrived at a courtyard.
The gate is a wooden fence, and it is currently open.
The three of them went straight inside.
Cao Dahua put the bag behind his back, placed his hand inside the bag, and gripped the gun.
Wu Song kept both hands in his pockets, ready to fire at any moment if things went wrong.
"Xiaomi, Xiaomi!"
As soon as Hou Er entered the door, he shouted at the top of his lungs, "Quick, we're one short for mahjong!"
"He's not here!" A middle-aged man walked into the yard.
"What?" Hou Er looked incredulous. "I ran into him on the street just two days ago."
"He's really not here! Why don't you believe me, young man?" the middle-aged man said. "He can't earn money at home either. A few days ago, he went to work in eastern Guangdong with his cousin."
"Can you get in touch with him?" Cao Dahua asked. "We have a job we'd like to do with him."
"This boss is an older brother I met inside. He's in the building materials business. He's already hired me. He pays me eight hundred a month, and there's nothing much to do." Hou Er reacted quickly and immediately started acting.
"Is this for real? Going to jail and getting a job?" The middle-aged man's eyes lit up. He looked Cao Dahua up and down, then at Wu Song, thinking to himself that the boss who could afford such a bodyguard was quite the hidden talent.
