Chapter 16 Manjushri Bodhisattva Steals the Script Ahead! The Great Sage Throws a Harsh Proclamation
Lingshan made the decision very quickly.
The name on that list is Manjushri Bodhisattva.
Of the eighty-one tribulations, three were originally Manjushri's responsibility. His mount, the Green Lion, was supposed to descend to the mortal realm and cause calamities in later parts of the story, to be subdued by Manjushri himself. This was a pre-arranged play.
Now that Manjushri has left the scene early, it's like the rest of the script has been brought out and used.
But Ling Shan no longer cared about the script.
If this drags on any longer, the entire script will have to be scrapped.
"Please, Bodhisattva, make this difficult trip." King Puji personally went to the front of Manjushri Monastery to make the invitation.
Manjushri sat on the futon, holding a string of prayer beads in his hand, his expression unchanged.
"This humble monk is already aware of this matter."
"That Bodhisattva..."
"Let's go." Manjushri stood up. "A mere mortal is nothing to this humble monk."
He said this in such a casual tone that it was as if he were just talking about going out to buy groceries today.
King Puji breathed a slight sigh of relief.
With Manjushri Bodhisattva involved, the matter is almost certainly settled. Who is Manjushri? One of the four great Bodhisattvas of Buddhism, whose wisdom sword has slain countless heretics and charlatans. How wicked can an unregistered mortal, no matter how unorthodox, really be?
Acquire business location.
Sun Wukong was lying under a tree, basking in the sun.
A beam of white light descended from the sky, revealing the form of Manjushri upon landing.
Clad in pristine white, he held a sword of wisdom, a pale golden halo above his head. Behind him followed two attendants, one carrying a prayer mat, the other a box containing Buddhist artifacts.
It was quite a grand affair.
Tang Sanzang was the first to rise and greet them, putting his hands together in a gesture of respect: "Greetings, Manjushri Bodhisattva."
Manjushri returned the greeting: "Holy Monk, please rise."
His gaze turned to Sun Wukong.
Sun Wukong slowly climbed up from under the tree and patted the dirt off his body.
"Buddha."
The tone was neither warm nor cold.
Manjushri looked at him and smiled. The smile was gentle, but there was a hidden meaning in his words.
"Wukong, I heard that you were stopped by an unregistered person for half a year. I was quite surprised when this news reached Mount Ling."
He paused.
"Today, this humble monk will personally make the trip to settle this matter."
The words were polite, but Sun Wukong understood their meaning.
The translation is: I don't believe you can't beat me, but you've caused too much trouble, so I'll personally clean up your mess.
Sun Wukong gave a cold laugh.
"You're too kind, Bodhisattva."
He picked up the golden cudgel.
"If you insist on going in person, Old Sun will accompany you."
He walked up to Manjushri and stared into Manjushri's eyes.
"But before you go, let me remind you of something."
"Don't blame me if we get driven back."
Manjushri smiled slightly.
"Wukong, what you're saying..."
He wasn't angry, nor did he retaliate; he simply smiled and shook his head.
In Manjushri's view, Sun Wukong's words were the monkey's last pretext. He was leaving himself an out—if Manjushri couldn't handle it either, the monkey could say, "See, I told you I couldn't beat him."
But Manjushri didn't think that day would come.
Could an ordinary person defeat Manjushri Bodhisattva?
It sounds more absurd than the sun rising in the west.
Pigsy leaned close to Monkey King and whispered:
"Brother Monkey, is Manjushri Bodhisattva really going to be able to handle this?"
Sun Wukong glanced at him.
"you guess."
"what?"
Pigsy was stunned for a moment and didn't react.
He leaned closer: "Brother Monkey, what do you mean? If you can, you can; if you can't, you can't. What are you guessing?"
Sun Wukong did not respond.
He walked to the side, picked up his golden cudgel, leaned against a tree, and adopted a spectator's posture.
Pigsy smacked his lips.
He felt there was something off about Monkey King's attitude. But upon closer inspection, he realized what was wrong—Manjushri Bodhisattva had come! One of the Four Great Bodhisattvas! What could be wrong?
Sha Wujing glanced at Sun Wukong, then at Manjushri, and silently wiped his staff.
He was actually feeling uneasy.
But then he thought again, Manjushri Bodhisattva's power is unfathomable. He had once heard Manjushri preach at Vulture Peak, and the Buddha's power so overwhelming that all the monks in the hall couldn't even lift their heads. Even if that mortal was incredibly powerful, surely he couldn't be evenly matched with the Four Great Bodhisattvas?
impossible.
Tang Sanzang stood to one side, his hands clasped together in prayer.
"Bodhisattva, would you like Tang Sanzang to accompany you on this journey?"
"Holy Monk, you may remain here." Manjushri shook his head. "This humble monk will return shortly."
After saying this, he turned his gaze towards the valley.
I glanced at it very casually.
A golden light flashed in his eyes.
"Just a mortal."
He twirled his prayer beads, his tone indifferent.
"This humble monk needs only one move."
Sun Wukong leaned against a tree with his arms crossed, a slight smile playing on his lips.
He didn't look up, and said softly.
"You said so."
No one but himself could hear those three words clearly.
But Manjushri heard it.
Manjushri did not turn around or refute, but simply smiled faintly and gracefully walked away towards the valley.
His two attendants followed closely behind.
Sun Wukong stood up and hoisted the golden cudgel onto his shoulder.
"Let's go."
"Brother Monkey, are you going too?" Pigsy asked.
"Old Sun is going too." Sun Wukong said without turning his head, "We can't miss this kind of show."
"What show?" Pigsy asked, looking completely bewildered.
Sun Wukong ignored him and flew away after Manjushri.
Pigsy scratched his head and turned to Sandy:
"Brother Sha, don't you think Brother Monkey is acting a bit strange?"
Sha Wujing slowly began to speak:
"Second Brother, I think..."
"The eldest brother's attitude doesn't seem like he's waiting for good news."
Pigsy was stunned.
He looked back at the empty camp and then at the receding golden light.
"Why do I feel like this..."
"This situation is not looking good?"

valley.
Lu Chen was tending to his vegetable garden.
The vegetable seedlings were growing crookedly, and there were a few wild scallions that he had transplanted next to them.
He was watering a broken pottery jar in one hand and swatting flies with the other, looking as relaxed as if he were on a battlefield.
A beam of white light descended from the sky.
Lu Chen raised his head.
His eyes lit up the moment he saw Manjushri.
It's not fear.
It's the kind of anticipation that comes after a long wait.
Finally, a decent one arrived.
He put down the pottery jar, patted the mud off his hands, and stood up.
"Manjushri Bodhisattva, I have long admired you."
Manjushri paused for a moment.
He has not yet revealed his identity.
He didn't send anyone to inform Ling Shan before he came. He descended to the mortal realm secretly, just to launch a surprise attack and see what kind of person this mortal really was.
How could an ordinary person recognize his name at a glance?
"Do you recognize this humble monk?"
"Of course I recognize him," Lu Chen said with a smile. "Manjushri Bodhisattva, he's very famous, who in the Three Realms doesn't recognize him?"
Manjushri frowned, but didn't ask any further questions.
He glanced at Lu Chen.
He extended his divine sense and carefully sensed it.
No cultivation level. No magical artifacts. No spiritual energy fluctuations.
He was just an ordinary person.
The information reported by all parties is completely consistent.
Manjushri lowered his guard slightly. But another layer of doubt arose. How could such a mortal possess the ability to go toe-to-toe with Sun Wukong?
"You probably know why I've come today," Manjushri said calmly. "Make way for me, and I'll spare your life."
