Chapter 4 Matthew
Chapter 4 Matthew
"It's done, someone's succeeded."
"It's a star, the first star has been successfully formed."
"Who? Who is it?"
"Who else could it be? The commotion is coming from Chief Matthew's room."
"My God! How long has it been? Less than half a day, right?"
"Lord Matthew is indeed incredibly talented; no wonder he is valued by the wizard."
A cacophony of voices, gasps of amazement, and incredulous shouts mingled with the sound of footsteps, surging like a tidal wave towards the room where Matthew was.
Although that room was also on the lower floor, it was located relatively higher up, closer to the stairwell, and the musty smell seemed to have faded a little.
Li Ang pushed open his creaking, broken wooden door, and a stench of sweat and mold hit him, causing him to cough again in a suppressed manner.
He leaned against the damp, cold cabin wall and looked up.
The narrow passageway was packed with excited people.
Everyone craned their necks, their eyes fixed intently on the newly opened door.
Ma Xiuzheng slowly walked out from inside the door.
His face still bore the pallor of someone who had been concentrating too much, but his eyes shone with an astonishing brightness, burning with an unprecedented, almost fanatical sense of pride and arrogance.
He slightly raised his chin, looked around at the crowd surrounding him, and couldn't help but twitch his lips upward, forming a smug smile.
"Sir Matthew, you've succeeded."
"Congratulations to the class leader for condensing the first star."
"Your Excellency's talent is truly exceptional, and you deserve the title."
"I hope you will take good care of me in the future, Headmaster."
Cavina's imposing figure pushed through the crowd like an iron tower, rushing to Matthew first, his face plastered with a fawning smile that bordered on grotesque, his voice booming like a call from the deck:
"Big brother... no, Chief! You are amazing! I knew you would be the first to succeed, bringing honor to the Carlson family."
He deliberately emphasized the words "Carlson family," but his gaze swept meaningfully over Li Ang, who was pale-faced, at the back of the crowd.
Matthew nodded reservedly, enjoying the feeling of being the center of attention.
He deliberately raised his right hand, his fingers slightly spread, as if still savoring the wondrous feeling brought by that newly born star in his spiritual world, which contained a faint magic.
That posture made it seem as if he had already grasped the key to the path of a wizard.
"It's just the first star, not worth mentioning."
Matthew's voice wasn't loud, but it clearly drowned out the surrounding noise, carrying a deliberate calmness.
"Lord Celeste's teachings are excellent. I was just lucky to get there first. If everyone works hard in meditation, we can all succeed."
His gaze swept across the crowd, and beneath that "encouragement" was an undisguised sense of superiority.
His gaze finally passed over the throng of people and landed precisely on Li Ang at the end of the passage.
Li Ang was leaning against the cabin wall, his back slightly hunched as he suppressed a cough; his slender figure appeared particularly fragile in the dim light.
A cruel smile crept onto Matthew's lips.
He pushed aside the crowd that was still showering him with compliments, strode forward, and led Kavi and his followers, like a victorious general inspecting his territory, and walked straight toward Li Ang.
The crowded passageway automatically parted to make way for him, and everyone watched with bated breath, the air thick with anticipation for a good show.
"Yo."
Matthew stopped in front of Li Ang, looking down at him with a drawn-out voice, full of undisguised malice and mockery.
"Isn't this our esteemed young master Carlson? Why is he hiding here all alone? Could it be... that he too has gathered starlight and wants to communicate with us?"
Kavi, who was behind him, immediately burst into a vulgar laugh:
"Hahaha! Chief, you think too highly of him. With his sickly appearance, he coughs for half a day after just a couple of breaths of our 'good' air. He wants to concentrate and meditate? Dream on! I doubt he can even imagine what the mental core looks like."
The apprentices around him also let out suppressed chuckles and whispers.
Although they were minor nobles like Li Ang, and should have sided with Li Ang, who was also a noble, the current situation led most of them to choose to belittle the weak and flatter the strong, enjoying the immediate pleasure.
Li Ang covered his mouth and coughed again, the pain in his lungs making his vision blur and cold sweat beading on his forehead.
He looked up and met Matthew's eyes, which seemed to say "You're finished." He breathed weakly and didn't say anything.
Matthew seemed to enjoy seeing Leon's pathetic struggle.
He bent down slightly, leaned close to Li Ang's ear, and whispered, in a voice barely audible to the two of them, "Young Master Li Ang, how are you feeling?"
"Isn't this moldy ship's hold much more 'comfortable' than your flower-scented bedroom at home? You still think you're that high and mighty young master? Wake up! Look at the current situation, who truly rules the lower levels of this ship? Who deserves to own the future?"
He straightened up, his voice suddenly rising in pitch, carrying the triumphant declaration that echoed throughout the corridor: "The opportunity your father risked everything for has ultimately benefited us brothers! Do you know what this means?"
"The Carlson family is finished, and you, you piece of trash, don't even deserve to step onto the steps of the Wizard's Tower! In half a month, you'll be like a stray dog, going back to your dilapidated little country manor to wait for your death."
The vicious words were like poisoned daggers, stabbing fiercely at Li Ang.
Matthew watched as Li Ang's body trembled slightly from anger and pain, and a twisted sense of pleasure welled up inside him.
He wanted to crush Li Ang's last shred of dignity.
He raised his hand triumphantly, as if he wanted to slap Li Ang again and completely humiliate this former young master.
It's now!
A resolute glint flashed in Li Ang's eyes. He no longer held back, letting the deadly itch deep in his throat erupt completely. He coughed violently, his body hunching over in pain.
At the same time, all his attention was instantly focused into the depths of his consciousness, establishing the most direct connection with the three [Wind-blown Canvas] hanging high on the mast.
The mind issues an invisible command at this moment.
"Move!"
【Wind-blown Canvas】A gust of wind suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
The massive wizard ship tilted violently to the right, as if it had been rammed by an invisible deep-sea monster, the magnitude of which far exceeded the impact of Li Ang's previous test.
"ah"
"What happened?"
"The ship is capsizing!"
Exclamations and screams instantly replaced all the previous jeers and compliments, exploding in the narrow passage.
Caught off guard, the crowd, like stalks of wheat swept by a strong wind, staggered and rolled into a heap.
Matthew, who was raising his hand and leaning forward, preparing to deliver the final blow to Li Ang, was the first to be hit. His smug grin was instantly replaced by extreme terror.
