Chapter 55 The Surging Undercurrents

Chapter 55 The Surging Undercurrents

Another, slightly somber and helpless male voice attempted to explain: "Instructor Karin, please calm down. We've reviewed the records. The last comprehensive cleanup of Whispering Forest was indeed two months ago, carried out by three teams. At that time, it was confirmed that there were no level 2 or higher monsters posing a threat. As for the abnormal speed you mentioned… could it be that those two apprentices were too nervous at the time and made a mistake in their judgment? After all, misjudging a level 2 monster is understandable…"

"Misjudgment?" Karin's voice grew sharper with anger. "My apprentice, Sandramea Maxwell, is royalty of Ironforge, trained in the most rigorous combat since childhood. How could she not distinguish between speed and slowness?"

Eve stepped into the hall at that moment. The two people who were arguing noticed her at the same time and turned their gazes to the door. The next second, the expressions on their faces froze instantly, filled with disbelief and astonishment, as if they had seen some impossible phantom.

The male wizard in the blue robe was the first to react. He quickly composed himself, stepped forward, and bowed perfectly, his voice tinged with nervousness: "Eve... Lady Eve? Is there... is there something you need?"

Karin followed suit with a bow, her anger still evident on her face. However, she knew why Eve had come, and thought to herself: It seems she really cares about her disciple, that she actually came in person.

Eve's gaze swept calmly over the two, and she gave the male wizard a slight nod in return. Her voice remained cool and calm, yet carried an undeniable weight:

"My apprentice, Leon Carlson, encountered a mutated Level 2 stone golem with Maxwell in Whispering Woods today. According to him, before launching the attack, the golem's body flashed with an unusual red light and instantly burst forth with a speed far exceeding records, blocking their retreat. I believe this is not a natural mutation, but rather the possibility of human intervention."

The male wizard's expression instantly turned serious upon hearing the words "Eve's apprentice" and "human intervention." If it were only Karin and her apprentice's side of the story, he might have been able to stall by saying he needed to investigate.

But Eve Chloe was different. She was a level 4 wizard, the daughter of the school's head, and also had the blood of the elven royal family. He, a mere level 3 wizard, dared not be negligent towards her.

He immediately said solemnly, "I understand, Instructor Eve, Instructor Karin. Please wait a moment. This matter is of utmost importance. I will immediately summon the deacon on duty today." After saying that, he turned and strode towards the inner hall.

Not long after, a series of steady footsteps sounded. The cold figure of the wizard Celeste appeared in the hall. He had obviously learned the general situation from his colleagues, and his sharp gaze fell directly on Eve and Karin.

"Witch Eve, Witch Karin," Ceronst greeted them briefly, then got straight to the point, "I have a preliminary understanding of the anomaly of the stone golem in the Whispering Forest. Please describe in more detail the golem's abnormal state, especially its burst of speed, and how long did it last?"

Karin glanced at Eve, and seeing that she didn't seem inclined to speak, she took over the conversation, saying with certainty:

"According to my apprentice's account, the monster only exhibited an extremely brief acceleration when it first flashed red, instantly teleporting behind them and blocking their retreat. In the subsequent battle, although it remained ferocious, it did not display that abnormal speed again. Otherwise, given their strength at the time, there would have been no way they could have killed it."

Cyronst frowned, his fingers tapping unconsciously on the table. He hesitated for a moment, then spoke slowly, his voice low and deep:

"A brief, explosive anomaly...that reminds me of something."

Eve and Karin's eyes both focused on him.

Celeste continued, "About a month and a half ago, the ship I was in charge of was attacked by Abyssal Hunters on its routine route."

Karin gasped: "That flight path isn't regularly cleaned..."

"Yes," Celeste interrupted her, his face turning ashen as he continued:

"Moreover, it also revealed characteristics that should not exist. I shattered its core, but it instead split into countless small monsters."

A deathly silence fell over the hall. The unusual stone golems in the Whispering Forest, the abyssal hunters that were abnormally splitting along the flight path... this was no coincidence.

Eve's cool voice broke the silence, a chilling glint in her eyes: "The Dark Witch Realm?"

Celeste slowly shook his head, his expression extremely serious:

"Currently, there is no direct evidence pointing to them, and law enforcement has not detected any evidence of large-scale activity from them recently. However..."

He paused, his gaze sweeping over Eve and Karin. "But from my personal perspective, I think it's highly likely they're the ones pulling the strings behind the scenes, those rats in the gutter."

Seronst pondered for a moment and said, "Gentlemen, the enforcement team has already sent a small squad to Whispering Forest to investigate. Until the results are in, the apprentices should not be allowed to approach that area."

Karin nodded solemnly and said, "Then I'll trouble you, Wizard Celest." After saying that, she bowed and turned to leave.

Eve nodded slightly to Theronster and said calmly, "Thank you for your help," before leaving the enforcement team's hall.

Holding the brand-new brown robe, Li Ang walked down the corridor back to his dormitory, but his heart was not as calm as it appeared.

Eve's subtle reactions to the words "stone golem" and "acceleration," and the faint words "things are going to get chaotic again" that he overheard as she turned to leave, all made him uneasy.

The appearance of a level 2 monster in Whispering Woods, which shouldn't have been there, and the monster encountered on the way to the Wizard's Tower, are no coincidences.

"Strength... I still need to be stronger." Li Ang clenched his fist subconsciously. Whether for self-preservation or to protect those around him, he felt far too weak right now.

Even a three-star apprentice wizard is like an ant in the face of real danger.

He stopped in his tracks as he walked toward the third-floor dormitory, his gaze involuntarily turning toward the entrance of the main tower.

A thought that had previously been impossible to carry out due to insufficient mental strength now clearly emerged: the row of imposing golden golem guards outside the tower!

Those guards look incredibly powerful; if only I could bind one to one…

Without hesitation, Li Ang changed direction and strode towards the main hall on the first floor. It was already late, and the hall was sparsely populated, with only a few busy wizard attendants.

He walked through the spacious main hall, pushed open the side door, and felt the cool evening breeze. Outside the door stood twelve puppet guards, each over two and a half meters tall, cast entirely from dark gold metal, and wielding rune-inscribed halberds, intimidating all external enemies.
