Chapter 12 Ruins
Chapter 12 Ruins
The Feasting Apostles... a sequence never heard of before.
He tried to add that little bit of mysticism to the ritual knowledge of the Feasting Apostles, and received a hint from the diary:
[Use to complete the ritual content? Current knowledge is incomplete; completing it requires 1 Mysticism Point]
Lucius hesitated for a moment.
The parchment containing the entire original text belonged to Professor Anthony, and it would be perfectly reasonable for Lucius to ask him for a more in-depth study of the document, provided that the timing was right.
There's no need to waste your precious occult points here.
Should we add more "The Secret of the Night's Watch"? Lucius felt it was necessary.
Marcus was watching him from the shadows, and the power Oliver had used in his dream still haunted him. At least he had some means of attack, right?
With a thought, the mystical points on the diary disappeared, and new entries began to be written in the diary:
[Consumes 1 Mystic Point, The Night's Watch Secret (lv1→lv2, 0%)]
[Hint: Your ability to enter dreams has been enhanced]
Current Mysticism Points: 0
That's it? I didn't feel anything at all, or do I have to enter a dream to experience the difference?
"I know too little about the occult," Lucius thought to himself. "Even if I happen to acquire some relevant documents and books, I can't form a systematic mind map."
This is also the dilemma that every wild Sequence user must face. If they want to continue on the Sequence path, they either have to join a secret organization such as a church or stagnate completely.
"Felix told me so much before, he might have been trying to lure me with his knowledge of the occult," Lucius thought to himself.
From a midnight dream test to a frank confession in the morning, from revealing the truth about the "light in the skull" to emphasizing his high talent.
Felix not only demonstrated the organization's strength and protective capabilities, but also subtly hinted at the scarcity and danger of knowledge.
It must be said, they succeeded.
Because these things are indeed what Lucius needs.
Lucius made up his mind to go to St. O'Dari's Church at noon as usual, and to inquire about the capture of Felix and his men.
Afterward, Professor Anthony completed his corrections to Daisy's "The Evolution of Interpretive Language into a Dead Language" in less than 20 minutes.
He left the teaching and research office, leaving behind only the two of them staring at each other in bewilderment.
"Daisy..." Lucius spoke first, wanting to find out more about the parchment scroll. "Is that ritual document important to Professor Anthony?"
Daisy flipped through the sentences highlighted in red on her interim report, and upon hearing this, she said thoughtfully:
"The professor's research topic is the evolution of ancient languages. Many rubbings of inscriptions unearthed from the fourth phase of the Hell River Estuary site overturned his previous conclusions, so he had to start the research again."
She sighed and said helplessly:
"So our workload has also increased dramatically. In addition to completing our small projects, we also have to help the professor proofread previous mistakes."
It's the Her River Estuary site again... Lucius's knowledge of this site is limited to what Professor Marcus once said and a few words in the newspaper.
The discovery of the entire site was initially a pure accident.
Four years ago, a cargo ship registered in Yorkshire, fully loaded with wool and ironware, set sail from Hull for the southern continent, but suddenly lost contact in the waters twelve miles off the mouth of the Hull River.
The shipping company dispatched rescue teams and divers to repeatedly search the areas where the shipwreck was most likely to have occurred.
The search and rescue operation lasted two months. The wreckage of the ship was not found, but divers unexpectedly discovered the remains of man-made structures under the silt layer at the river mouth.
This event shocked the entire Kingdom of Horn. A ship had silently disappeared on the surface of the water, a heavy blow to a city that relied on port trade.
But the public was soon shocked again by the artifacts unearthed at the site.
This place actually contains an entire large human tribe from the Third Era!
From the sacrificial plaza to the residential area, from the burial grounds to the stele forest, the scale is extremely rare in the archaeological history of the Third Era of the entire Western Continent.
The first phase of archaeological work proceeded with great difficulty, and the Hull City Government, together with East York University and the Royal Society, organized a large archaeological team.
Strangely, the artifacts unearthed in the first phase of excavation were not published in any media. It wasn't until the second phase of excavation began that sporadic documents and inscriptions appeared in the public eye.
To date, the archaeological work has entered its fourth phase, and reports indicate it is nearing completion.
The main part of the Herhe River Estuary site complex has been basically cleared, and the archaeological team is processing the last batch of unearthed artifacts and inscriptions.
This also means that Professor Anthony's project must be completed before the materials are fully made public. Once all the documents, inscriptions and rubbings are included in the official archives of the Royal Society, other scholars will flock to the project, and the first-mover advantage will no longer exist.
Upon realizing this, Lu Xiu immediately felt that those unpublished materials most likely contained occult knowledge that could not be known to ordinary people.
"Lucius?" Daisy's hand swept quickly across his face. "Why are you suddenly spacing out? I called you three times."
"What's wrong?" Lucius asked, snapping out of his daze.
Daisy pointed to the large pile of newly moved books and documents on the mahogany table and said:
"These are references I borrowed from the library, which include a compilation of rubbings of inscriptions from the second period, three sets of comparative tables of language branches and variants in the North Continent, a study on the periodic stagnation of the evolution of tracing languages in the fourth century, and two monographs on the grammatical structure of tracing languages written by Professor Anthony himself."
Our task today is to rewrite the language comparison section of the interim report based on this information.
You'll be responsible for translating and annotating the original manuscript, and then I'll write the main text.
Lucius didn't seem to have any objections, shrugging his shoulders and saying, "Let's go ahead."
…………
The morning passed quickly. Lucius's workload seemed heavy, but it was actually quite substantial.
Fortunately, Daisy had already done most of the work, and all Lucius had to do was point out the mistakes and correct them.
The two stood up at the same time, smiled at each other, and Daisy spoke first:
"It's almost noon, how about we grab some lunch together? Hmm, what do you think of that little restaurant near the school gate?"
Daisy seemed to be in a good mood, not only because of the progress of the work, but also because she had learned a lot of things that she had previously wondered about after just one morning of working with Lucius.
Although Lucius missed the Highland lamb chops and tartares at the small restaurant, he had to politely decline, considering his limited funds.
"Maybe next time, Daisy. I have an important interview at noon. If I get the job, I'll treat you to dinner tomorrow."
"Okay," Daisy said, not dwelling on the matter. She hugged the neatly prepared translation notes to her chest. "Then I wish you good luck in your interview today!"
The two walked out of the teaching and research office and parted ways at the school gate. Lucius took out his pocket watch and saw that it was exactly twelve o'clock.
The golden sunlight quietly turned blood red, and everything in sight seemed to be shrouded in a light veil.
