Chapter 9 Early Discharge
Chapter 9 Early Discharge
Xu Yang watched He Hui and Zhang Dahe leave, and the ward fell silent again.
Liu Xiaoli tidied up the lunchbox on the bedside table with light and quick movements, humming the song "My Motherland" that Xu Yang had just played.
Although it was just a soft hum, Xu Yang found it very pleasant to listen to.
After Liu Xiaoli finished packing and was about to leave, Xu Yang spoke up: "Sister Xiaoli, I want to discuss something with you."
"What is it?" Liu Xiaoli turned around and glanced at Xu Yang.
"I want to be discharged from the hospital early."
Liu Xiaoli frowned slightly: "Early discharge? The doctor said you need to be observed for three days, and you've only been there two days, what's the rush?"
Xu Yang said quite frankly, "It's too boring staying in the hospital, and it's inconvenient to write articles."
"I am in good health now. Apart from not being able to remember some things, I have no problems. Staying here will not restore my memory."
"Going outside for a walk and looking around might help my memory recover."
Upon hearing this, Liu Xiaoli's expression clearly showed hesitation.
She bit her lower lip and thought for a while, seemingly weighing which was more important: the "doctor's orders" or "helping Xu Yang regain his memory."
After a long pause, she spoke hesitantly, "What you said... seems to make some sense."
"However, this is not up to me. Let's ask the doctor. If the doctor agrees, I will discharge you."
She herself didn't like staying in the hospital; she felt uncomfortable as soon as she arrived, so she could understand Xu Yang's desire to be discharged.
She had also observed Xu Yang's condition. Apart from the invisible and intangible problem of "amnesia," he was indeed able to eat and sleep well and was full of energy.
"Let's go quickly, there should be a doctor here by now." Xu Yang hurriedly walked towards the door, looking as if he was afraid Liu Xiaoli would change her mind.
Liu Xiaoli smiled at his impatient manner, but then put on a serious face: "Don't be so eager to jump around, I'll go call the doctor to come and take a look."
"If you're really alright, the doctor will naturally discharge you."
After she finished speaking, she turned and left the ward. Her thick braid swayed gently behind her, making Xu Yang's heart flutter.
Xu Yang leaned back on the bed, unable to suppress the corners of his mouth from his mouth.
After waiting a few minutes, Liu Xiaoli led in a middle-aged female doctor in a white coat.
The female doctor's surname is Wang, and she is the same one who examined Xu Yang yesterday.
She picked up the stethoscope and listened to Xu Yang's chest, then checked his eyelids, took his blood pressure, and finally gave him a suspicious look.
"Based on the test results, there are indeed no problems. If you want to be discharged, you can complete the procedures."
"However, there is one condition: if you experience dizziness, headache, or other discomfort after returning home, you must go back to the hospital immediately."
"Thank you, Dr. Wang! I will definitely pay close attention and come to the hospital immediately if anything happens!" Xu Yang agreed readily.
"Okay, then come with me to handle his discharge procedures." As she spoke, she glanced at Liu Xiaoli.
"Doctor, we'll come back later to complete the discharge procedures. I'll take him to buy some clothes first," Liu Xiaoli said gently.
When Xu Yang was brought to the hospital, he was only wearing a pair of underwear; he was later dressed in a hospital gown.
He can't leave the hospital wearing a hospital gown, can he?
Originally, she planned to measure Xu Yang's size when she came to deliver dinner in the evening, and then bring him a set of clothes tomorrow.
So the two of them left the hospital and headed straight for the supply and marketing cooperative across the street.
The styles of clothing are quite limited now; they are either work clothes in different colors or Zhongshan suits.
Xu Yang chose a gray Zhongshan suit and paired it with a white shirt.
After returning to the hospital, Xu Yang changed into the new clothes he had bought.
Xu Yang changed his clothes and opened the door. Liu Xiaoli had just returned from completing her discharge procedures.
When she saw Xu Yang, she stopped abruptly.
Sunlight streamed in through the window, casting a soft golden glow over him.
His grey Zhongshan suit was crisp and well-fitting, and his white shirt collar was crisp and white, making him look radiant and completely different from when he was wearing a hospital gown.
Liu Xiaoli was stunned for several seconds before she came to her senses, and her ears turned slightly red.
"How is it? Not bad, right?" Xu Yang turned around and opened his arms for her to see.
"It's alright." Liu Xiaoli looked away, trying to keep her tone calm.
"Let's go then. You shouldn't be late for work now, right?" Xu Yang asked with concern as he picked up his things.
"No, I'll ask for leave from work and then take you back," Liu Xiaoli said softly.
After the two went downstairs, Liu Xiaoli led Xu Yang to the bicycle shed.
She came by bicycle, since her home and workplace are some distance from the hospital, and walking would take too much time.
"Sister Xiaoli, if you trust my riding skills, then let me ride," Xu Yang said.
Liu Xiaoli didn't hesitate and handed the old-fashioned 28-inch lever directly to Xu Yang.
Xu Yang, who is over 1.8 meters tall, easily slung his arm over the bike and glanced at Liu Xiaoli.
Liu Xiaoli took a deep breath and sat up in the back seat.
This was the first time she had ever sat in the back seat of a man.
The moment Liu Xiaoli sat in the back seat, her body stiffened, and she gripped the springs under the seat cushion tightly with both hands, her knuckles turning white.
Xu Yang started the car by stepping on the pedal, and the car swayed slightly. Liu Xiaoli cried out "Ah!" and instinctively leaned forward, her forehead hitting Xu Yang's back.
"I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry!" She quickly shrank back, her face turning bright red.
"It's okay, just sit tight." Xu Yang's voice came from the front, with a smile.
Liu Xiaoli bit her lip, hesitated for two seconds, and finally reached out and very lightly tugged at a small piece of fabric at the back of Xu Yang's clothes.
The wind blew past my ears, carrying the chill of early spring.
Guided by Liu Xiaoli, Xu Yang sped along and arrived at Jiangcheng Song and Dance Theater in just over ten minutes.
The bicycle stopped at the entrance of the opera house. Xu Yang put one foot on the ground and looked back at Liu Xiaoli.
Her face was flushed slightly by the wind, and a few stray strands of hair were disheveled on her forehead, which she was tucking behind her ear with her hand. After she loosened the piece of fabric that had been tugging at him all the way, her fingers remained slightly curled, as if she couldn't bear to part with that touch.
"We've arrived," Xu Yang said.
Liu Xiaoli grunted in agreement, jumped off the back seat, straightened her trousers, and glanced up at the theater entrance.
The words "Jiangcheng Song and Dance Theater" on the lintel are in Mao Zedong's calligraphy style, painted in red, and are particularly eye-catching in the early spring sunshine.
The stone lions at the entrance still had red ribbons left over from the New Year tied around their necks, and the edges were a bit frayed from the wind.
"I'm going to ask for leave. You wait for me here and don't wander off." Liu Xiaoli's tone was like she was instructing a troublesome child.
Xu Yang smiled slightly and said directly, "No need to ask for leave, Sister Xiaoli, you can go to work with peace of mind. I'll ride my bike around the neighborhood and pick you up when you're almost off work."
Liu Xiaoli hesitated for a moment before saying, "Why don't you come in with me? We have a rehearsal this afternoon. You can watch it and get familiar with the work of the cultural propaganda team in advance."
How could anyone refuse such a wonderful opportunity to admire Liu Xiaoli's dance moves?
So he quickly said, "That's great! Let's go in quickly."
