Chapter 378 - 227: Eye of the Stars (Part 2)
"Speaking of interesting things, there is indeed one."
"What is it?"
"The academy recently installed a new magic device, reportedly obtained from the Star Alliance. It can monitor the energy particle fluctuations throughout the entire academy. If someone uses magic outside the designated practice and experiment areas, it will detect and alert immediately."
"Just last month, two students had a private duel and were caught. Not only were they fined a hefty sum of contribution points, but they are also currently in detention."
Fleming looked surprised, "There’s such a magic device?"
"Why would I lie to you? That thing is currently placed in the monitoring room and is called the Star of Eye."
Seeing Fleming’s curiosity, Donohue smirked and said:
"This month, it’s Mentor Innocent on duty in the monitoring room. I remember he admires you a lot. If you’re curious, you could ask him to show you the Star of Eye."
Fleming was instantly intrigued. He specialized in the field of [Magic Item Crafting], so it would be a lie to say he wasn’t curious about such an unusually sounding magic item.
But he quickly realized it, glancing at Donohue, half-smiling.
"I think you’re more curious, right? Otherwise, why are you urging me to find Mentor Innocent?"
"Haha, I knew I couldn’t hide it from you."
Being seen through, Donohue wasn’t embarrassed, cheerfully said:
"But you’re curious too, aren’t you? So, shall we go?"
Fleming hesitated for a moment but finally couldn’t resist the curiosity in his heart and nodded firmly.
"Alright, let’s go find Mentor Innocent."
After making the decision, the two of them rushed to the monitoring room without even finishing their meal.
The monitoring room is located in the central part of the academy, a white high-rise building.
Beside it is stationed a troop of elite Dual-bladed Spiders (100 in number). If a violation occurs anywhere in the academy, a squad of Dual-bladed Spiders will immediately respond and enforce arrest.
A squad of five Legendary level elite Dual-bladed Spiders is enough to easily suppress any students in the academy except for mentors.
After being checked by the Steel Golem at the entrance, Fleming and Donohue entered the building.
No sooner had they walked into the hall than they noticed the giant crystal ball placed at the center.
The entire crystal ball is about the height of a person, elliptical in shape, with sharp ends, resembling an eye made of crystal.
Inside this ’eye’ is a vivid three-dimensional panoramic model.
Fleming recognized it at a glance as the panoramic view of Starlight Academy.
What startled him were numerous tiny green, yellow, and blue spots of light scattered all over it, numbering probably in the thousands.
Just as Fleming was about to walk closer to take a look, a staff member stopped him.
"Are you here to use the Star of Eye? Do you have a usage permit?"
Fleming was taken aback but soon heard Donohue explain, "Some tasks require the use of the Star of Eye. The task takers can obtain temporary usage permission for it."
After explaining, Donohue said to the staff member, "We’re here to find Mentor Innocent."
The staff member was about to speak when a voice suddenly came to his ears.
"You can leave, I’ll take care of them."
The staff member turned around, immediately showing a respectful expression.
"Lord Innocent."
Innocent gestured for the staff member to leave, then turned to look at Fleming, smiling.
"You came straight here as soon as you got back; I guess it’s for the Star of Eye, right?"
Fleming reacted with surprise, "Mentor knows I just returned today?"
"You’re now a cadre of the Star Alliance, no need to call me mentor, just use my name," Innocent chuckled, then pointed at the Star of Eye, "A supervising mentor can see the Star of Eye’s status anytime. As soon as you stepped into the academy gate, I knew."
Fleming and Donohue exchanged a glance, both somewhat amazed.
Is the Star of Eye this incredible?
It can actually monitor everyone’s movements in the academy in real-time?
"Want to take a look?" Innocent pointed to the Star of Eye.
Fleming nodded agreeably, "I’m sorry to trouble you, Mentor."
Innocent smiled gently, leading them over to the Star of Eye.
"The Star of Eye was developed by Lord Xingyun as a magic device, the first complete piece placed here at Starlight Academy for practical use, while also collecting data."
"It can detect any life forms with energy particles meeting a certain standard within a specific range, capture their life information, and then continuously monitor them until the target leaves the monitoring range."
"Basically, as long as it’s a creature reaching the Knight Level, regardless of its form, even if it’s a golem, it’s within the capture range."
Fleming marvels, pointing at the light spots on the Star of Eye, "Are these the biological targets captured?"
"Correct, the green dots represent Wizard Apprentices, yellow dots represent golem creatures, blue dots represent the Alien Race, and different colors represent different power levels."
Upon close inspection, Fleming found that near the monitoring room were two dark green dots, and a lighter-colored dot nearby, clearly the three of them.
In his curiosity, Fleming reached out and tapped the green dot representing himself, soon lines of information floated up.
[Fleming Small, Human Male]
[Energy Level: 12 (Level 3 Wizard Apprentice)]
[Identity: Star Alliance Cadre]
[Danger: None]
"For any target whose life information is captured, we record corresponding information on the Star of Eye," Innocent explained.
"Mentor, I heard the Star of Eye can also capture energy particle fluctuations during battles."
"That’s right, during battles, organisms emit more intense and active energy particle fluctuations, which the Star of Eye can capture in real-time."
Saying that, Innocent had a slight teasing tone.
"Thanks to the Star of Eye, private dueling activities in the academy have significantly decreased recently. The poor red-eyed crows no longer have to work so hard."
Fleming laughed along, yet he was deeply astounded in his heart.
Indeed, those designated by Lord Sunan as proxy controllers are not simple; they can create such magical and powerful devices.
He almost immediately realized the immense role the Star of Eye could play in guarding specific areas.
With the Star of Eye, any creature entering its detection range would be captured and monitored in real-time immediately.
Unless they can mask their energy particle fluctuations and continuously do so, any leakage would be immediately caught by the Star of Eye.
The existence of the Star of Eye undoubtedly greatly reduces the chances of enemy infiltration and ambush!
At this stage, it may not seem significant, but if another-plane war occurs in the future, its impact could be phenomenal.
Even when used merely to defend one’s territory, it could exert a noticeable effect.
"Mentor, what’s the effective range of the Star of Eye?"
"It covers the entire Zone 3."
Innocent tapped on the Star of Eye’s surface; the panoramic model of the academy rapidly shrank, zooming out to show three-dimensional models of two tall towers.
Fleming immediately recognized them as the Dragon Remains Tower and the Starlight Wizard Tower where Lord Sunan resides.
The quantity of deep green lights on both towers far exceeded those at Starlight Academy.
After a glance around, Donohue couldn’t help but ask, "Where’s Lord Sunan’s light?"
Innocent glanced at him and chuckled, "You want to track Lord Sunan’s whereabouts?"
Donohue realized this and offered an apologetic smile.
At that moment, the Star of Eye suddenly emitted a buzzing sound, followed by an ear-piercing alarm.
Everyone looked over in astonishment, only to see on the Star of Eye, a prominent red halo appeared on the Starlight Wizard Tower.
