Chapter 366: A Sudden Turn of Events

Chapter 366: A Sudden Turn of Events

According to Nathaniel Nathan’s plan, everyone in the market should have been off work by this time, leaving the place deserted. But no one could have predicted that due to Vera Xavier and Susan Caldwell’s bet, so many people would still be gathered in the sealed-off, innermost office.

The drug lord and his trusted subordinates fled in a panic, running straight into the ambush set by Scott Sullivan and his men. Desperate, they burst into the office.

The moment he burst in, he was startled to see so many people inside, but he reacted instantly. He grabbed Aaron Cheney, who was closest to him, pulled out a knife tucked into his waistband, and snarled, "All of you, back the hell off!"

No one had anticipated such a sudden turn of events, and everyone was frozen in fear.

Leo Wright’s eyes narrowed. He discreetly shielded Susan Caldwell behind him and whispered, "These people are dangerous."

As Leo Wright shielded Susan Caldwell, Alistair Forrest’s bodyguards had already moved to protect him.

The office staff also scrambled to back away.

In an instant, only Vera Xavier was left standing in the middle.

Just then, two more men burst in and yelled at everyone else, "Get to the back!"

Vera Xavier knew she was in extreme danger; these armed thugs could slit her throat at any moment. She had no choice but to raise her hands above her head and retreat to a corner.

After securing Aaron Cheney, the drug lord, Trent Thornton, noticed there were several highly skilled people in the room. ’Rotten luck,’ he cursed to himself. Still, with a hostage in hand, he regained some of his composure. He saw Vera Xavier standing in the middle and roared, "Back off!"

Aaron Cheney had never experienced anything like this. He felt Trent Thornton’s arm tightening around his throat, threatening to suffocate him. Though normally quite brave, he was terrified. His first instinct was to scream, ’Vera, save me!’

But the words died on his lips. He remembered Vera Xavier was just a delicate girl, and he had promised Nathaniel Nathan he would protect her. How could he drag her into this danger?

So he clenched his jaw and said nothing.

Vera had only come here to buy some jade; she never imagined she would walk into something like this.

’If anything happens to Aaron Cheney this time, how will I ever face his parents?’

Having lived two lives, she could see with perfect clarity just how dangerous the man holding Aaron Cheney was.

She wouldn’t have gotten involved if it had been anyone else, but with Aaron in his grasp, she couldn’t just stand by. The problem was, she had no idea how to save him.

Just then, Scott Sullivan and Heath Wright burst in, their knives aimed at Trent Thornton. Trent Thornton immediately ducked behind Aaron Cheney, using him as a human shield, and sneered, "Got the guts? Then make your move!"
