Chapter 1093 1093: Endgame (4)
"....."
There was a few seconds stretch of silence that felt quite unsettling as everybody stared into space at the settling smoke that had risen from the combined attacks.
The forty thousand remaining Dawn forces that hadn't participated in the clash with the Zodiac one stared blankly at the air as the sun could be seen peeking at the horizon. Mere minutes to vanishing into the horizon.
The battle was over?
They-They had won against all odds?
The decades-long threat of the Otherworlders was finished?
The thousands of forces looked at one another as tears welled up in their eyes.
— WE WON!
— HA! I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT WE SURVIVED!
— We? I can't believe that I even survived.
— We flipping won! Victory is ours!
— Praise be the heavens.
A few of the forces fell to their knees in relief as it felt like a heavy weight had been lifted off their chests.
Some jumped and shouted chants of victory. They were singing a strange song that they had simply come up with just now.
"Victory! Oh Victory. Sweet, sweet, sweet, Victory.
The enemy came with the force to kill, but we conquered them all. We are the greatest, we overcame our fears and we finish-ed the threats our ancestors founded.
Victory! Oh Victory. Sweet, Sweet, Sweet, Victory."
They kept singing and dancing with a cheerful glee while some stood in one spot staring blankly.
The same way the elite forces were doing.
Looking blanky into space.
Contrary to the others dancing and singing in victory, the elite forces all knew one thing.
They hadn't won, they lost.
Yes. Technically, they won against the Otherworlders but at what cost?
Out of over five hundred thousand forces from both the warrior and mage world, only Forty thousand survived.
The Emperor of the Kingdom was dead; The Captain of the Lunaria force was dead; Sol was dead, the Captain of the Dawn force back in the Vayun world was dead; Gunther was dead too. So many of them were injured and tired.
Town Kiten was in ruins. And they didn't even know of the outcome of Grey and Gustav's fight.
No idea where the leader of the Otherworlders had teleported the Supreme Magus to or if he even survived at all.
So how were they victorious?
They had lost so much.
So many dear ones.
The forces who were staring blankly, resonated with the elite forces as many of their families and close friends that came to the war with them had perished.
Their bodies unrecoverable due to the high tier clash with Jim.
It was really a sad day as they all kept looking into space when the elite forces all looked at each other and gave themselves a nod.
Eyes teary at the amount of people they lost but still, they put on brave smiles as Jim's body was seen by Vince turning to ash.
He walked closer to finally see the last of the flesh turn to ash leaving behind a gleaming core on the ground.
"Huh?"
Scarlet turned towards his direction and cocked a brow.
"What is it?"
Vince thought for a few seconds before lifting his head.
"Remind me… it's only beasts that leave behind cores after death right? And they certainly don't turn to ash afterwards, right?"
Hearing his question, most of the others were intrigued as they walked over to see the pulsating core left behind by Jim with his body nowhere to be found.
Vince bent down reaching for it when Max shook his head.
"I will suggest we don't touch it and instead leave it as it is. Who knows what it could do to us."
"I agree." Dante nodded as he could finally feel his mana core emptying as the five minutes countdown was up a few seconds ago.
"Who knows if it is a hidden trap left behind before he lost his life."
Nodding along, Vanica and Arthur quickly rushed forward from where they stood with faces full of tears.
"You guys survived. We all did."
Vanica gestured towards her.
"Huddle closer let me heal you all. You deserve it."
Smiling at the timid looking girl, everybody sauntered towards her except Kael who refused to move from where he stood.
He hadn't gone over to see the core left behind so he was still in his position while Vince was left to look at the pulsating core with a fascinated expression on his face.
A massive ethereal glow burst out from Vanica's hands spreading in all directions and touching those within her range.
Immediately, they could feel a warm feeling flooding their whole bodies as their flesh knitted together at a decent pace.
Their faces regained the glows it had.
A few minutes passed before Vanica dropped to her knees exhaustedly.
The glow vanished.
Raze and Greg sauntered towards Vince and they bumped their fists into his shoulder with warm smiles on their faces.
"We knew you wouldn't turn on us."
"You knew?" Vince questioned with a frown on his face.
"Of course." Raze smiled sheepishly.
"So why were you so committed to killing me huh?"
"That? That was just acting my bro," Raze leaned in and lightly bashed his shoulder into Vince's. "Didn't want to blow your cover."
Vince just rolled his eyes around.
"Kael, is everything okay?" Viktor asked as he walked towards where the young man stood.
"..."
"Just thinking about what I lost in this war today. Sol is gone… my father too…"
"Sigh… it hurts. I know. At least their murderers are dead now."
Elara rushed down from the building with Lilly holding her shoulder for support.
Killian and Alba rushed forward to receive their clan member from the hands of the elven princess who breathed a sigh of relief.
"I have healed her so she isn't feeling giddy again but she is still faint."
They nodded at the elven princess who walked away with a cocoon of plants hovering behind her back.
The forces moved immediately as Amir's, Gunther and Leo's bodies were retrieved and placed in the open space.
Unfortunately, Sol's body couldn't be retrieved.
The cocoon landed softly and unfurled itself to reveal the dead Emperor— his body was gently placed beside the others as everybody gathered around.
In unison, they all lifted their hands towards their heads with one leg raised above the ground.
Then with a loud stomp, they saluted the dead with tears falling down their faces.
'Rest well, dad.' Kael saluted inwardly.
'Rest well, dad. You died without knowing that your son wasn't a traitor. I'm so sorry I couldn't save you and Dave.' Vince clenched his jaws as he stared at the headless Amir's body.
Tears cascaded down his face in waves.
Fenrir who lay unconscious a few metres away could be seen stirring awake with his eyelids fluttering in confusion.
At that exact moment, an ashen portal was seen opening in the middle of the town with everybody turning towards it with confused looks.
Staggering and stumbling out of the portal was a pale figure.
"GREY!"
