Chapter 1017: Unintentional or Intentional?
Chapter 1017: Unintentional or Intentional?
As the saying goes, I'm not afraid of serious illness, but I'm afraid of bad illness.
Bad disease is the disease that every doctor does not want to encounter.
"Severe illness" usually refers to diseases with urgent conditions, obvious symptoms and high severity, such as acute myocardial infarction, severe pneumonia, cerebral hemorrhage, etc.
The reason why this type of disease is not scary is due to two characteristics.
The symptoms are clear and easy to identify early.
Bad symptoms are often characterized by being "dark" and "difficult to control".
"Bad disease" does not mean an absolutely serious condition, but refers to those diseases that are highly hidden, have complex causes, progress strangely, and have poor treatment effects.
Their "horror" is often reflected in their irregularity.
From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, "severe illness" refers to a state in which pathogenic factors, such as the six exogenous evils, endogenous phlegm, blood stasis, and heat toxins, become powerful during the course of a disease, leading to severe clinical symptoms, deep lesions, and rapid progression of the disease.
Its core characteristic is "evil is rampant but righteousness is not exhausted" - although the pathogenic factors are rampant, if timely intervention is made, righteousness still has the ability to resist the pathogenic factors, the condition may be reversed, and the prognosis is relatively controllable.
But bad symptoms are different.
The concept of "bad disease" was first seen in "Treatise on Febrile Diseases".
The original text of Treatise on Febrile Diseases states, "If a patient with a Taiyang disease has been sweating for three days and still has not recovered after vomiting, purgation, or warm acupuncture, this is a serious disease and Guizhi is not suitable for it. Observe the pulse and symptoms to determine the cause of the disease and treat accordingly."
From this we can see that the core of the disease is "exhaustion of function, disorder of mechanism, and poor prognosis"
Most serious illnesses are caused by improper treatment or incorrect diagnosis, such as excessive sweating, improper vomiting or purgation, abuse of cold/warm medicines or long-term illness, which lead to serious decline of vital energy (yang energy, yin fluid, and vital energy), or the pathogenesis is disordered due to improper intervention, forming a complex state with "no rules to follow", making the condition difficult to reverse and the prognosis dangerous.
The lack of regularity is the most terrifying thing about a disease, and it is also the reason doctors are most reluctant to face.
Normal illnesses, no matter how serious, have traces to follow, and doctors can diagnose and treat them based on the "rules", but bad illnesses are caused by human factors.
Just like poisoning, for poisoned patients, doctors need to understand what kind of poison it is and how toxic it is. Even when Western medicine is facing snake venom, they need to know what kind of venomous snake it is in order to treat it.
If we don’t understand what the poison is, we cannot understand the rules, which will greatly increase the difficulty of dialectics.
The reason why Chen Yang did not discuss this issue in the ward just now was because he took into consideration the emotions and attitudes of the patient's family.
There are many reasons for the occurrence of bad diseases, some unintentional and some man-made.
If it was unintentional, it was just that the treatment ideas of Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine were different, or they did not have enough understanding of the disease and their level was limited. After all, this disease is difficult to treat, otherwise the patient would not have been to many hospitals for half a year without any effect.
Misdiagnosis and incorrect treatment, or some treatments without sufficient understanding of the disease, are common in medical treatment and cannot be avoided. If responsibility is investigated for such matters, no doctor would dare to treat patients casually.
Apart from Chen Yang, who cheated and dared to guarantee his accuracy, even national masters such as Wen Xiuping and Song Luojun did not dare to guarantee that they would never make mistakes.
A highly skilled doctor can only ensure that the probability of making mistakes is lower, but cannot eliminate it.
But if it is man-made, then it is intentional and a very serious problem.
Therefore, before it is clear whether it is man-made or intentional, Chen Yang does not want the patient's family to know the inside story. Now Chen Yang and others are consulting and discussing it.
The lights in the consultation room made everyone's expression exceptionally clear.
The atmosphere in the consultation room was as heavy as if a lead weight was pressing on one's chest.
Chen Yang projected the photo of Linlin's tongue onto the screen - the spider-web-like cracks on the thin tongue looked particularly glaring under the cold light.
"Everyone has seen it."
Chen Yang's voice was cold and deep, and his fingertips tapped heavily on the deepest part of the crack: "The True Yin has dried up, like a riverbed cracked in the sun! Look at the root of the tongue..."
The scene switches to a thick, greasy coating covering the base of the tongue, greasy and dirty: "Damp-heat and toxic stasis are entrenched in the lower part of the body, a stalemate that is difficult to resolve! The ulcer on the tip of the tongue is red like charcoal, a burning fire in the heart!"
"Looking at the pulse again, a deep, thin, and weak pulse indicates extreme Qi depletion, but what is this restless, rapid pulse? It's Yin failing to restrain Yang, causing the weak Yang to escape! The little remaining vital energy in the body has been forced to retreat to a corner by the drugs, and is now running rampant through the meridians!"
"This is no longer simply improper treatment of 'juvenile idiopathic arthritis'!"
Chen Yang's gaze swept over the crowd, his words as cold as ice: "This is a typical bad disease! Incorrect treatment, misdiagnosis, and the overuse of harsh drugs have turned a child's body into a battlefield of yin and yang, cold and heat!"
"Severe cases still have patterns to follow; the struggle between evil and good always leaves traces. But for serious cases..."
Xun Jiahong gasped as he looked at the chaotic tongue and pulse readings. "The patterns were forcibly shattered by external forces. The doctor himself pushed both the pathogenic evil and the righteous energy into the abyss of chaos! Director Chen is right. This is bordering on murder!"
“I just don’t know if it’s man-made or…”
Gao Anliang said: "At present, we only have the patient's medical records from the previous stage and some examination sheets. The patient's treatment records from Dongchuan Children's Hospital have not been brought here yet."
Generally speaking, it takes some time to print the medical records after the patient is discharged from the hospital, and it is impossible to get the medical records immediately.
This time, Jiang Yuan and his wife only brought part of Linlin's medical records and examination lists.
Therefore, some specific situations require obtaining the medical records from Dongchuan Children's Hospital before a judgment can be made.
"This isn't the time to assign blame. Let's discuss a treatment plan first."
Chen Yang paused, then looked at everyone again.
To be honest, Chen Yang hasn't been this angry for a long time.
Although Chen Yang has no clear evidence at present, he has basically guessed that there is a high probability that something went wrong at Dongchuan Children's Hospital.
Chen Yang is also a father. Hanhan is only four years old this year. The little girl Jiang Linlin who fell ill this time is only two or three years older than Hanhan.
A little girl was tortured into this state.
When taking the pulse just now, Chen Yang was a little afraid to look at the little girl's hands. The back of her hands and arms were covered with dense needle holes, which was heartbreaking to look at.
Many hospitals now use indwelling needles, but these needles need to be changed every three or four days. Linlin has been in treatment for more than half a year, and you can imagine how many needle holes there are on her hands and arms.
"Director Chen is right. Now is not the time to pursue responsibility. The child's life hangs by a thread! The most urgent task is to rectify the chaos and restore the order of yin and yang!"
Gao Anliang nodded and said, "Fortunately, we received the child in time, otherwise the consequences would be disastrous."
Everyone nodded.
Before seeing the child, no one could imagine that his condition was so serious. If it was delayed any further, his life would be in danger.
