Chapter 238 : So Fun to Tease
Chapter 238 : So Fun to Tease
Ariel was lost in thought, absentmindedly stroking Annie's fur.Celitia found it amusing and simply moved closer too, playing with the rabbit's fluffy paws.
Judy approached carrying a teapot, refilled Ariel's teacup with half a cup of black tea, and said with a smile:
"You two, holding this rabbit, really look like you're holding a child. When Shanie was little, I often held her like this, with Lake sitting beside me, coaxing her together."
Judy smiled kindly, very nostalgic. "Hehe, you two look just like us back then—loving couples who were tired but happy..."
"Huh?!"
Hearing Judy's words, Ariel was startled and suddenly stood up from her chair, almost dropping Annie from her arms.
Annie shuddered all over, immediately snapping awake, and quickly jumped onto Celitia's shoulder, hiding in her long hair while glaring warily at Ariel.
Ariel's cheeks flushed bright red as she frantically waved her hands at Judy:
"Couple? No no no! You misunderstood—Lily and I don't have that kind of relationship!!"
"Well, Miss Ariel, I didn't misunderstand," Judy looked confused. "Did I say something ambiguous?"
Celitia silently facepalmed.
Judy was clearly just reminiscing about her past with Lake, but this silly Saintess had somehow misunderstood.
Under their gazes, Ariel realized something, replayed Judy's words, and the blush spread all the way to the base of her neck.
She once again experienced that embarrassment from when she first woke up from that melodramatic dream—wanting to dig a hole to hide in or flee this world overnight.
Especially this time, it wasn't just Celitia alone—three other people were watching too.
"No, I just... just..."
Ariel stammered for a long time but couldn't explain anything.
Goddess, she really didn't know how to explain this inexplicable misunderstanding!
Noticing the commotion here, Shanie and Benita's gazes also turned over.
"What happened? Why is Lady Ariel's face so red?" Shanie asked curiously.
Benita nudged her arm: "If it's already this red, maybe don't ask."
Shanie thought about it: "Oh right..."
The two were quite considerate, but to Ariel's ears, it was adding fuel to the fire.
Ariel felt she could no longer stay in this room.
Seeing Ariel's embarrassed and annoyed expression, the little devil in Celitia's heart couldn't be suppressed again.
"It's nothing, Aunt Judy." She slyly curved her lips. "Maybe Ariel just likes children and is thinking of finding someone to have one with, so she's been thinking about it—"
Before Celitia finished speaking, Ariel panicked and stepped back half a step, kicking the chair with a loud "thud."
The blush had spread to the top of her head, steam puffing out, and Ariel was completely embarrassed and collapsed:
"I... I... I still need to return to the village church, so I won't disturb you any longer! I'll visit again later when I have time!"
With that, she swept out the door like a whirlwind and disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Celitia's mouth hung slightly open as she watched the direction Ariel disappeared, leisurely uttering a sentence:
"Not very good at being teased..."
She hadn't even said anything yet, but the Saintess had fled too quickly.
But speaking of teasing Ariel...
It actually seemed quite fun?
One tease and she took the bait, one bait and she exploded...
When people are too innocent, they're easily played with.
So, let's continue next time!
What Celitia didn't notice was that to some extent, she had also inherited some of the demon race's mischievous genes...
After Ariel left, it was approaching noon.
Judy was busy in the kitchen preparing lunch for them.
Smelling the aroma of food wafting over, Celitia asked Shanie:
"Speaking of which, will Mr. Lake come back for lunch?"
Lake had left home after lunch yesterday.
By now, almost a full day had passed.
Although Shanie said this was normal, Celitia somehow felt uneasy.
"Right, it's almost noon—even if dad was drunk, he should be awake by now."
Reminded by Celitia, Shanie also became a bit worried.
"Should we go out and look for him?" Celitia suggested. "What places does Mr. Lake usually go to?"
"Mm, let me think—should we check a few uncles' houses first?"
As the two were discussing, Benita suddenly spoke:
"Listen, it sounds quite noisy outside. Is Mr. Lake back, or has something happened?"
Just as Benita finished speaking, the house's front door was knocked loudly from outside.
A somewhat familiar voice rang out: "Judy, Shanie! Are you home? Something's happened!"
Shanie immediately jumped up from her chair, rushed to the door, and hurriedly opened it: "What is it?"
A middle-aged man with several villagers stood at the door, looking urgent.
Celitia remembered the middle-aged man—it was Paul, the villager who had told them Monica's story yesterday.
"Shanie," Paul said anxiously, "we just got news—Lake has been arrested by Baron Chuck!"
"Why?"
Shanie couldn't believe it. "Dad has always been law-abiding, pays taxes on time, never committed any crimes—why would he be arrested?"
"It seems related to your land." Paul said. "They're saying some ancient treasure was dug up from the land and your family hid it privately—they want to use this reason to charge Lake with a crime!"
Hearing this, Celitia looked up coldly:
"Just making up a random charge to forcibly confiscate land cultivated by free citizens."
Celitia had seen this kind of thing too many times before.
Judy heard the voices outside and rushed out wearing her apron.
She grabbed Paul tightly, almost collapsing: "What happened to Lake? Has he been locked up? Is he injured??"
"Judy, don't panic first—let's all discuss how to rescue Lake."
Several villagers including Paul spoke all at once, each giving Judy advice.
Just then, another commotion came from not far away.
A blonde youth leading a group of people, carrying a pile of tools, walked over arrogantly.
They didn't enter the house directly but instead rushed into the fields outside, wielding hoes and starting to dig randomly everywhere.
"Dig here! Dig over there too!"
The leading youth didn't go into the fields himself, only stood disdainfully by the roadside with his arms crossed, directing the group around.
"Olar?"
Celitia recognized him at first glance.
