Jyera World Apocalypse

Chapter 98: The First Apocalypse Part 7

Chapter 98: The First Apocalypse Part 7

It didn’t take long for Lorenzo to explain his plan to Catherine..."So, how will this ’System’ help cure our son?"

"I didn’t come to visit him without a reason..."

Catherine carefully observed her son frozen inside the glass cocoon and turned to her husband, awaiting his explanation.

"Lucien possesses the same Universal Force as I do!"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes! I confirmed it using my new ability: Quantify. He has been a level 3 mutant human for at least 5 months; that explains why he couldn’t use his powers... It’s a Universal Force that’s very difficult to use without fully understanding it, since the cost of its use can end up costing the user’s life..."

"Do you think that if he uses Cause and Effect, he can reverse his own state of health to before he was bitten, or perhaps eliminate the virus from his body?"

"In theory, yes, he already has a huge amount of accumulated "cause" from not using his powers for so many months... I need to grant him a system that helps him do this even unconsciously..."

"What do you need?"

"If you have a telepath among the mutant humans in the alliance, that would help a lot... But the best would be someone who can enter another person’s dreams."

"A telepath might be possible, we already have someone with something similar, but a Universal Force related to dreams has never been recorded..."

"There’s no rush, look calmly, I’ll still need a good amount of time to finalize his system."

"Okay, leave it to me. Uh, there’s one more thing I want to ask..."

Catherine asked while looking somewhat lost at something before her eyes.

"Yes?"

"What does this system do? And how do I make these letters disappear from my vision?"

"Hahaha"

"What’s so funny?"

"I made this system especially for you! It’s a gift!"

"Hm?"

"It will help you better control your powers, showing you your limitations, as well as keeping you connected full-time to Alliance affairs."

Catherine froze for a moment. Since the incident with her son, she had kept her distance from Lorenzo, almost as if they were strangers. At that moment, she felt quite ashamed for unconsciously blaming him for the incident...

Her face flushed; she murmured a soft thank-you and hugged her husband.

Lorenzo returned the hug, and they remained embraced in silence for several minutes until a red light and warning letters flashed on Catherine’s system screen. Another Jyrean Alliance base was being attacked again.

"Go, duty calls. If you need my help, you can call me."

Catherine stepped back and said softly:

"I love you!"

"I love you too, darling!"

As soon as Catherine left the room, Lorenzo waved his hands, and a globe of golden light appeared in front of him. And he began to work on this mysterious globe of energy as if it were a computer...

The young Lucien, who had silently watched these memories, now had a smile on his face.

Dying in the first apocalypse or turning into a zombie wasn’t something that saddened him. He knew those were just memories of a future that never happened.

What truly saddened him was seeing his parents talking to each other so coldly, as if they were strangers. Something he had never seen before.

That’s why their last display of affection warmed his heart. No matter the difficulties, they should continue loving and getting along. If his parents divorced because of what happened to him, it would be even more painful to witness than death itself or his transformation into a zombie.

Soon, time moved forward again. More precisely, almost a year had passed since the beginning of Lorenzo’s new plan...

***

"Why isn’t it working?"

"Did you do something wrong?"

"I don’t know... I really thought the system would work even with Lucien unconscious!"

Since the plan to use telepathy to communicate with the unconscious Lucien didn’t work, someone with a possible Universal Dream Force never appeared. Lorenzo tried to make the system as autonomous as possible.

But it seemed that without Lucien being conscious, the system couldn’t use the accumulated Cause he possessed...

A long silence fell between Lorenzo and Catherine.

Minutes later, the silence was broken by Catherine:

"Then we only have that plan left..."

"Do you really think you can go back that far in time? You said that even going back in time by a single day puts an enormous burden on your body..."

"But what choice do we have? Are we going to let our son die?"

While Catherine remained silent, Lorenzo remembered how his wife’s powers worked.

She could freeze time in an area equivalent to the entire Capital: Aethoria. But when used on that scale, she could only keep time paused for a few seconds. Therefore, whenever she used this ability, she limited the paused area so that it would last longer.

The second use of her ability was to make time go back or forward by a single day.

Most members of the Jyrean Alliance saw Catherine as their heroine; She always had the "perfect timing," arriving at the right moment to save the Alliance bases and teams in danger.

But that wasn’t always the case. She always rewound time by almost a day to undo most of the disasters that were frequently occurring. The problem was that she needed to be within a day’s range to run and reach the disaster before it happened.

Catherine’s initial plan was to try to rewind time to the moment Lucien was bitten. But even if she did that, it wasn’t guaranteed she would be able to save him due to the distance. Worse still, after using her power on such a large scale, she would surely die, failing to save her son, and all the disasters she prevented would repeat themselves, and everyone in the Jyrean Alliance would be dead within months, since whenever time rewound, she was the only one who always remembered the events!

"Perhaps it’s possible..."

"Lorenzo?"

"Perhaps it’s possible if I use all my power to boost your Universal Force... But instead of sending you to a recent past where Lucien was bitten, we can try using your power on a scale never before seen..."

"You mean?"

"Perhaps we can go back in time! Enough to prevent this apocalypse, or who knows, improve Lucien’s chances of survival, and hopefully, the entire planet’s... But for that I’ll need..."

Lorenzo didn’t finish the sentence.

"You’ll need what?"

"Besides a lot of resources, I’ll need many people to sacrifice themselves for this..."

"If time can truly be reversed on the scale you mentioned, I think many in the Alliance would be willing to help us."

"Then let’s begin!"

And so, a plan to completely change Jyera’s destiny began. But neither Lorenzo nor Catherine imagined that the mysterious enemies attacking Jyera would become even more aggressive in the coming months...
